In 2013, what is now known as Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital opened as the first purpose-built hospital serving patients in need of rehabilitation or with complex, chronic conditions. The Albert and Temmy Latner Family Palliative Care Unit on the top floor of the building offers sweeping views of the city from each room’s floor-to-ceiling windows, and from the outdoor terrace, bringing the peace and tranquility of nature to those with life-limiting illnesses.
In April 2020, Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital began admitting COVID-19 patients for rehabilitation. As a rehabilitation and complex care hospital, Hennick Bridgepoint does not provide emergency or intensive care services. Its weighty contribution to the pandemic response was making room to accept patient transfers from acute care hospitals to ease pressure in parts of the city hardest hit by COVID-19. Hennick Bridgepoint accepted more of these types of patient transfers than any other post-acute care facility in Ontario.
In 2021, Bridgepoint Active Healthcare was renamed Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital in recognition of a transformational $36-million gift from Jay and Barbara Hennick, long-time leaders and supporters of Sinai Health.
